"A story? You guys want me to tell you a story?" Shin asked, watching the kids who had gathered at the foot of her chair. Three little heads nodded eagerly, looking up at her and the shinigami couldn't help but sigh. Who could say no to kids after all, especially when they were this cute. She sank back into her large egg chair, crossing her legs and pressing the tips of her fingers together. A story... a story... What story could she tell? She didn't know any decent stories these kids hadn't heard before. She had to make one up on the spot. Already, Lunis had settled by her feet as had Cinnamon. There was no getting out of it.

They could still hear each other despite the din of the midday crowd as the three of them sat in the far corner of the cafeteria. No one turned to look at them. They were, after all, very important people within the Dragons Heaven and most everyone knew their faces and the positions they held. Of course, in this place, those positions were set aside. They were just one of the crowd now, a table of three men sharing food, drink and company. They had to line up to get it like everyone else. They had to find a chair like everyone else. They did this every afternoon, when their breaks would allow it. One would contact the other and they wo

Sympathy for the Devil
Please allow me to introduce myself.
I'm a man of wealth and taste.
...Or so the song goes. I've been long portrayed as a man of great sophistication, the dude oozing charm and wit, walking sex on legs. All that is no mere exaggeration, I assure you. It's part of my job, after all: To seduce, to entice, to tempt. But what happens when the lights fade and the spotlight goes out? What happens to the devil when he retires to his throne of bones amidst the screaming and the tortured souls?
He pops vicodin.
No, I'm kidding.
No mere mortal drug can suppress the pain I endure every single waking moment of my life. Yo

Running Late on the 6PM Train
We parted ways as always,
A quick hug and goodbye.
Nothing had changed perhaps
The intensity, like we didn't want to let go.
Always opposite directions, you and I.
Opposing compass points
And different glass doors.
Every step took me further from you
As I broke into a run.
Thanks, you said.
I saw it when I reached the train.
Humanity packed like sardines,
Weary bodies and spent perfume.
A child's whine near my feet.
The clink of your beads against a steel pole.
Acceleration and monotony of the evening rush.
Breathing rushed, heart pounding against my chest.
Breathless, gazing to where you were.
Acceleration, monoton

Silence on a Concrete Walkway
Silence as humanity passes.
Is this what happens when time stops?
We couldn't speak,
Standing there amongst a crowd
Who barely saw my tears
As I opened my mouth to speak.
A forced-back sob, a single tear that nearly fell.
Time moved once more as I drew away.
Unable to speak.
Unable to tell you what I wanted to say.
If I spoke, I knew
I wouldn't stop crying.
But not from the words I told you.
From the thought of missing you again.
-Dawn-
There was nothing but silence when I finally awoke. I knew this place, I knew where I lay and why I was here. Ther was nothing but cold stone' the walls, the floor, stone beneath me and stone around me. My fingers weakly closed, nails digging into my palm as I willed my senses alive. I felt too weak to sit up but I didn't even try. I was waiting for him to come and tell me he had awoken. I closed my eyes to ready myself for his return. He would come to me.
My eyes shut, allowing my surroundings to overwhelm me. There was nothing to bother me but the constant rhythmic dripping of water into a puddle. My mind wandered as I l
Hinder
It's really good to hear your voice
Saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
He never thought it would come down this hard. It was just a gentle patter when he had descended the flights of stairs to the grounds below. Now it drowned out the outside din of vehicles, people and music playing from the nearby building interior. Nothing else would pierce the wet applause of rain but the beating of his own heart, audible and almost deafening in his own head. The steady hammering k
Sparkling angel
I believe
All around him is the smell of smoke and ash, the scent and wave of destruction that lies in his wake. Humans part like the waves before this luminous being. Those who are sensitive to his presence watch him. A few scramble to get away, already hindered by the flames, the heat, the death and smoke. He takes no heed toward them. They mean nothing: mere victims to the ebb and flow of his wake.
The screams around him call no attention whatsoever. One such as himself is used to this sort of thing. In his hand he grips a jeweled lance, one of the weapons entrusted to him. The blade pushes easy into an unconscious body

Ow. Sunlight.
I never really liked sunlight to begin with. Most types like myself never do, really. Theres something about the sunlight today, though. It doesnt hurt as much. The last time it felt that way was when I was in some place that made me forget about the stinging light.
Come to think about it the room feels alien, too.
I sit up, glancing at the sleeping form beside me. Tense, I feel my fingers clutch at the bedsheets, feeling the silk beneath my fingers wrinkle ever so slightly when I realize who lay next to me last night. I cant help but smile, though. She looks so beautiful
